Bemus Point - Stow Ferry Bicentennial

The celebration of the bicentennial of the Bemus Point – Stow Ferry was all that it promised.

An appearance by Mark Twain (Channel 7’s Mike Randall) set the tone for the event with a clever, homespun monologue that was just what we’ve come to expect from the Master of the American Language.

Sam Greisbaum followed with his keen observations of the American condition. Some of what we do is embarrassing, some it beautiful, and Sam calls it as he sees it.

The Ragtime Island Windjammers played two sets of (you guessed it) ragtime favorites and interpretations of American favorites to lead us up to fireworks.

The fireworks capped the event nicely. Always an exciting, feel good moment!

Weekend of the Fourth

Can’t decide between Billy Joel and Elton John? You didn’t have to. The hits of both artists performed on one stage, right on the shores of Chautauqua Lake.

The Billy Joel/Elton John Tribute brought back a lot of our favorites, including Big Shot, Movin’ Out, Just the Way You Are, Bennie and the Jets, Candle in the Wind, and Philadelphia Freedom. It’s hard to fit all the hits of these two great piano men into one event, but it was nicely done.

Next up is the Kiss tribute on the fourth, followed up with fireworks!

A New Season Begins

With a stirring tribute to long time favorite, Bill Volk, we welcome in the new season for the Pops.

Though Bill is no longer here to fire up our weekends on the deck, his name now graces the stage, and the celebration of his life and music opens the 2011 season. We now look forward to performances including movie nights on Tuesdays, Chautauqua Idol, and performances including this week's schedule with tributes to the Blues Brothers, Elton John and Billy Joel, and Kiss.

Stay tuned for more updates and reminders of upcoming acts......or better yet, visit bemusbaypops.com and post your comments.
